Carol Mutuku is responsible for technical and professional implementation of all RA SAS Farm and CoC, UTZ standards and auditing processes in Eastern and Southern Africa, Egypt, Turkey and Albania. In addition, she is also a lead auditor for RA SAS and CoC.
She is also responsible for the audit administration and technical process, auditing, report reviewing, support to clients, certification database management, and to review and approve trademarks for her assigned portfolio.
She is the primary contact for farmers, companies and auditors operating in the region. Carol is the contact person for NEPCon Africa in the sub-region. She is also in-charge of promoting certification programmes by building and maintaining relationships with farmers and companies.
She carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Carol began her career with the certification division of the Rainforest Alliance, RA-Cert, as an auditor for the RA SAS Farm and CoC standards in 2012. In this role, she gained experience working in various countries - interacted with different nationalities. She is experienced in auditing different crops which are tea, coffee, flowers, mangoes, bananas, rosehip, herbs and spices. She is also trained in Environmental Impact Assessment and certified by the National Environmental Authority in Kenya.
Carol has a Master’s Degree in Development Studies (Community Development) from St Pauls University in Nairobi, Kenya; a Degree in Environmental Studies from Kenyatta University Nairobi, and a Diploma in Community Development from Premese Africa College where she earned a first class honours.
She is currently doing her PhD in Environmental Studies at Kenyatta University Nairobi, Kenya.
